A Guide to New South Wales State Archives relating to Responsible Government
suggested that a Bill for these purposes could be drafted in the
month between receipt of notice of the Royal assent to the Act and
its proclamation, the Colonial Secretary's Office believed that it
should be drafted immediately in view of the great deal of time
which preparation of new electoral lists, the issue of new writs, the
appointment of Returning Officers etc would occupy, and the Law
Officers were accordingly instructed to prepare the Bill.
The draft Bill, transmitted with 55/10138, is not with these
papers.
