Box [5/52483 includes papers relating to the repair and
distribution of ballot boxes. The file for the King Electoral District
in [5/5249] includes a typescript transcript of an interview with
James John Morrish, MLA, on 23 February 1914 as to the
alteration of boundaries in the Electoral District of King, increased
payments to Presiding Officers at election booths, discrepancy in
figures, and refunds required from the Returning Officer; poll
results for the 1913 General Election of 6 December 1913 for
various polling places; and a corrected final result of the poll.

Electoral papers, 1913-14
In addition to papers relating to the running/holding of the
General Election, this bundle comprises papers registered in 1914
which relate to the general administration of electoral matters.
Many papers relate to electoral officers: the appointment of
permanent and temporary Deputy Electoral Registrars, and of
Electoral Registrars; appointment of Clerks to Courts authorised to
hear electoral appeals; notifications about the appointment of
permanent and temporary Clerks of Petty Sessions and Police
Magistrates; leave of absence and resumption of duty
notifications; complaints about the appointment of Deputy
Returning Officers; and allowances for acting as Deputy Electoral
Registrar.
Other papers relate to electoral rolls: corrections to rolls; changes
of address of electors; transfer of names of electors from one roll
to another; omission of names from the rolls; notifying corrections
or alterations to rolls; re non-enrolment of certain names of
electors; applications to be placed on the roll; complaints about
enrolment; requests for copies of rolls; re compilation and supply
of rolls; and, the disposal of obsolete lists, rolls etc.
Also included are papers relating to forged electoral claims ;
double voting at the 1913 General Election; alleged
impersonations at the polling booth; irregularities in connection
with voting; telegraphing results of the election; discrepancies
between the official returns and the results of the polling as
telegraphed; absent votes, including alleged informal votes;
scrutiny of rolls; booths at polling places; authorisations for Police
Magistrates to hear and determine appeals made in accordance
with the Parliamentary Electorates and Elections Act, 1912; repair
and construction of new ballot boxes; accounts for printing; the
local option vote; use of State electoral ballot boxes at shire
elections; property damaged at polling places; and claims for
travelling and other expenses.
Other inclusions are: lists of disqualifications; lists of objection;
representations re revision of the State electoral system; requests
by MLAs for polling results; and, requests for copies of electoral
maps.
