writs returnable 31 October). Also included are various blank
forms, such as telegram transmitted forms and Government
advertising forms (G.A.4).
Records of the Electoral Districts Commission, 1911-12
The Commissioners was appointed on 4 August 1911 under the
Parliamentary Electorates Act, 1902, the Women's Franchise Act,
1902, the Electorates Redistribution Act, 1904, the Parliamentary
Elections Act, 1906, and the Parliamentary Elections (Second
Ballot) Act, 1910, for a period of twelve months to carry out the
re-distribution of State electorates. The Commissioners were
Walter Edmunds, Frederick Albert Coghlan and John Burt Trivett.

Box [4/975] includes signed copies of evidence, 17 January23 April 1912; letters returning revised transcripts of evidence;
three copies of a printed document labelled as "Police Collection
1911 - forming basis of distribution — and which became Rolls
prior to the final adoption of Scheme"; Provisional distribution —
signed copy (as published in the Government Gazette); and,
applications by MLAs for sketches etc of preliminary proposals —
and for interviews.
Box [4/976] includes the Chairman's copies of the minutes of
evidence, 17 January-23 April 1912; preliminary scheme of
distribution — descriptions as gazetted 30 March 1912 and set of
maps; copies of the final report of the Commissioners, as printed
after presentation to the Governor, and of Supplement to the
Government Gazette of 14 May 1912 containing copy of the report
published for general information; and, printed notice in the
Government Gazette of 30 March 1912 on the proposed new
Electoral Districts.
Box [4/977] comprises two shorthand notebooks of evidence taken
before the Commission, 17 January-23 April 1912; and
suggestions lodged with the Commission prior to publication of the
provisional scheme. Included in the latter are representations from
local councils, Members of Parliaments, organisations and
individuals, and petitions from electors (eg some 244 electors of
the Maitland electorate protesting against any extension of the
boundaries of their electorates as would bring within the electorate
the mining townships of Cessnock and Kurri Kurri and their
immediate neighbourhoods).
Box [4/978] includes suggestions lodged with the Commission
prior to publication of the provisional scheme; a large file of
objections etc lodged since preliminary proposals of the
Commissioners were first indicated to Members of Parliaments and
others on taking evidence: and in response to the subsequent
publication of boundaries, and exhibition of maps of the
provisional scheme; and, descriptions of the preliminary
distribution (including printer's proofs, and a copy of the
provisional scheme as published in the Government Gazette of
30 March 1912).
