M14153 comprises papers relating to the separation of the
Northern Districts. Included are extracts from the proceedings of
the Executive Council on 2 and 23 November 1857 concerning the
boundary line of the new Colony and its division into electoral
districts. The Executive Council approved a scheme for dividing the
Colony of Moreton Bay into 15 Electoral Districts. This was to be
transmitted to Her Majesty's Government for insertion in the Order
in Council constituting the Government and Legislature of the new
Colony.
Also included are various printed returns relating to the Moreton
Bay district for the period 1842-56, such as: of revenue collected;
amounts received for the sale of land and paid on account of
immigration; total purchase price of land sold; amounts derived
from the leasing of Crown lands; statement of expenditure for the
Districts of Moreton, Darling Downs, Maranoa, Leichhardt, Port
Curtis, Wide Bay and Burnett; statement of the estimated
proportion of the general Government chargeable to the Moreton
Bay District; and returns of population.
1865 Minutes — M16347/2
M16347/2 comprises papers relating to the portion of the public
debt of New South Wales to be borne by the Colony of
Queensland. The main document is a memorandum from the
Treasury dated 19 January 1874, with its nine enclosures labelled
A to I, relating to the Queensland debt.

Included are Queensland Act 24 Vic No.4 of 1860, The Adjustment
of Accounts with New South Wales Act; New South Wales Act
26 Vic No.8, The Queensland Debt Act of 1862; papers relating to
Edward Deas Thomson's appointment in 1864 as the
Commissioner for New South Wales for settling the inter-Colonial
debt at the separation of Queensland; printed papers Queensland
Debt (Further Correspondence, etc), ordered to be printed by the
Legislative Assembly 16 June 1865, comprising copies of letters
and despatches dating from 1862; copy of the (Queensland) Votes
and Proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, 7 September 1865;
Queensland debt returns; and other papers.
The final document with this minute is a copy of the (New South
Wales) Votes and Proceedings of the Legislative Assembly of
20 January 1874 where the question of the Queensland debt was
answered with the concluding remark being: "the present
Government will give some further consideration to the matter for
the purpose of determining whether it is necessary to take any
further, and what, steps in the matter".
