State elections, 1901

Includes correspondence (letters, telegrams etc), mainly from
Returning Officers, concerning the return of writs, cheques book
receipts, vouchers etc; accounting matters — receipts for
payments in connection with services rendered at late Election,
recapitulation of vouchers, accounts for expenses, applications
for advances; declarations of Returning Officers; the appointment
of and declarations of substitute Returning Officers and Deputy
Returning Officers; recommendations for the appointment of

forms and electoral material (nomination of candidate forms,
books of vouchers, legislation); and, the transmission of
nomination papers of candidates, ballot papers used and unused,
statements of the poll, electoral rolls, additional signature books,
and tally sheets.
In addition, there are a number of papers relating to polling
places: acknowledging notification of their appointment; petitions
from electors for appointment of polling places; recommendations
for appointment of new polling places by Returning Officers and
Members of the Legislative Assembly; and requests for particular
places as polling booths. Other papers include: the result of the
poll for the Electoral District of Inverell; and a submission from the
electors of Waratah for the polling booth for the Hanbury Division
to be located at the School of Arts or the Waratah Council
Chambers.
There are also many letters and telegrams from Returning
Officers, and representations from Members of the Legislative
Assembly and others, requesting the appointment of a polling
place at Sydney for various country Electorates because of the
number of electors who would be attending a stud sheep sale
there during the week of the election.
