Also included are a memorial from certain electors (miners) of the
Rocky River Gold Fields, present at a public meeting held on
8 September 1859, complaining that they remained unrepresented
and were "for the time being virtually disenfranchised"; they
prayed for a speedy return to the writ for the Electorate and that a
strict investigation into the cause of the delay of return from
Canoona be instituted.
Polling places in the various electorates, 1859-64
This bundle comprises papers relating the appointment of
additional polling places and the cancellation of existing ones.
Mainly letters from the various Returning Officers naming the
polling places for their Electoral Districts but also petitions from
inhabitants, applications from groups such as the Bombala Bench,
and letters from electors in support of new polling places or
suggesting replacement polling places.

Included are papers relating to the substitution of polling places
established at stations in the interior or other private places. Also
included are various issues of the Government Gazette notifying
the appointment and/or cancellation of polling places; the
Government Gazette of 20 September 1864 concerning a writ of.
election issued for the East Macquarie Electoral District; and the
Votes and Proceedings of the Legislative Assembly of 26 October
1864.
The bulk of the papers are for 1864.
Declarations of Returning Officers under the Electoral Act of
1858, 1859-64

This bundle comprises declarations, with covering letters
transmitting them, accepting the office of Returning Officer and
promising, and declaring, to faithfully perform the duties of the
office to the best of his understanding and ability etc.
The majority of the declarations are for the period March to June
1859.

CSIL 60/2955 comprises 1859-60 correspondence and papers
relating to such electoral matters as nominating/confirming,
cancelling and requesting additional polling places; and requests
for copies of the Electoral Law Amendment Act of 1858 and the
supply of ballot boxes.

Gwydir, Illawarra, Liverpool Plains, Mudgee, New England, etc.
CSIL 61/4162
In-letter 61/4162 comprises letters from the various Returning
Officers throughout the Colony transmitting a return of the
number of electors on the electoral roll for their Electoral District
for 1861-62. This correspondence was in response to a Colonial
Secretary's Office circular of 3 May 1861.
