The other papers in the bundle are mainly printed papers, such as
returns of the number of electors on the electoral roll of each
Electoral District of New South Wales, under the Act of Council
14 Vic No.48, showing number of electors for 1853-54, 1854-55
and 1855-56; return of the number of electors in Electoral Districts
for 1857-58, ordered to be printed by the Legislative Assembly
15 December 1857, showing Electoral District (thirty-four in all),
names of sub-divisions, number of electors in each division
entitled to vote (as freeholders, as householders, etc), number of
electors in each division and total number of electors; and, a copy
of the Government Gazette of 24 December 1857 comprising a
notice entitled "Writs of Election" concerning the arrangements for
a General Election of members to serve in the Legislative
Assembly for polling which was to take place between 13 January
and 12 February 1858 and the writ returned by 27 February 1858.
There are also draft manuscript returns labelled "Political
Franchise" for 1855 and 1856 which show franchise, name of
electoral division, number of representatives, number of registered
electors at last election, ordinary duration of sessions and
assemblies and periods of meeting, by what Acts regulated,
number of voters at last general election, date of last general
election and remarks. The date of the last general election on first
return is given as September 1851, while for the second as MarchApril 1856. A further inclusion is a letter from the Clerk of the
Legislative Assembly of 20 April 1857 returning the Return for the
1857 Blue Book headed Political Franchise corrected.
1858 Legislative Assembly — LA 58/23
LA 58/23 is an Order for Papers from the Legislative Assembly
dated 23 April 1858. The request is for a return showing the
number of adult males in each Electoral District as set out in the
Electoral Bill then before the House. Included is the printed return,
presented 30 April 1858, which shows the number of adult males
in each Electoral District, by Police Districts or parts of Police
Districts within each Electoral District.

There is also a second return, with a covering memorandum of
7 May from the Legislative Assembly Office stating "Laid upon the
Table by Mr. Cowper, in substitution for Return to Order issued
4 May, 1858, under same Title". This comprises a table showing
the number of male adults in each Police District of each of the
electorates proposed under the Electoral Bill of 1858, as well as
the number of members proposed for each District; together with
a statement showing the number of representatives to be chosen
from the squatting, mixed and settled districts, with the number of
male adults in each electorate.
1858 Legislative Council — LC 58/16
LC 58/16 is an extract from Minutes No.57 of 27 August 1858
concerning a motion for a return of electoral districts as proposed
in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill (showing the number of the
population in each Electoral District and distinguishing male adults
from women and children, and giving an estimate of the probable
number of electors in each district) and a plan showing the
boundaries of the several Electoral Districts as proposed in the Bill
State Records Authority of New South Wales
