This bundle contains: an electoral list for Darling, 1903-04;
electoral list of males, 1905 and electoral list of females, 1906;
Brewarrina population return 31 December 1914; electoral map for
western New South Wales 1919; and, electoral rolls for Sturt
(Brewarrina) 1922 and for Namoi 1927.

For convenience relevant records in these two series relating to
electoral matters have been listed in one roughly chronological
sequence.
Political franchise (including printed Government Gazettes,
returns for 1856, papers re general election of 1856 etc),
1855-57

While many of the papers appear to relate to the preparation of
returns on the political franchise for inclusion in the Blue Books,
there are also papers and correspondence relating to the first
general election under the Constitution Act of 1855.
The papers relating to the first General Election under responsible
government include:
• printed return of the Colonial Secretary's Office of 1 March 1856
entitled "Writs of Election" concerning the arrangements for the
holding of the different elections for a General Election of
members to serve in the Legislative Assembly: showing for
each Electoral District, the number of members to be returned;
date of the writ of election; the name of the Returning Officer;
the name of the chief polling place or place of nomination; the
date of nomination; polling day; names of polling places; and
the date of return of the writ. The polling dates were from
11 March to 19 April 1856, and all writs were to be returned by
30 April 1856.
• a copy of the Government Gazette of 13 May 1856 which
includes a proclamation appointing nominated members of the
Legislative Council for the first Parliament under the new
Constitution Act; a proclamation nominating the first sitting day
of the new Parliament 22 May; and proclamations validating the
election results of late return writs as well as a notice from the
Colonial Secretary's Office giving the results of the election.
• a manuscript "Return of the number of Electors on the Electoral
Roll of each Electoral District of New South Wales for the first
general Election under the Constitution Act 18 and 19 Victoria
Cap 54" which for each district shows the number of electors,
37,515 electors being the final total; and
• letters from Returning Officers reporting the number of voters
in their respective Electoral Districts at the 1856 general
election (in response to the circular letter of 25 April 1856, a
draft of which is included). Some of these specify the votes
received by each candidate at each polling place within the
Electoral District (Liverpool Plains and Gwydir; St Vincent;
Gloucester and Macquarie) while others indicate that no polling
