Skeleton register, 1826–44
State Records has compiled a 'skeleton register'
of letters received for the period 1826–45. This
in-house finding aid is designed to assist in
locating individual letters. It is available in the
reading rooms.

Letters Sent, 1826+
Copies of letters sent re convicts, Oct 1826–
May 1855
Copies of letters mainly to the Principal
Superintendent of Convicts and to the Land
Board in relation to the assignment of convict
servants. In 1831 this Board became the Board
for the Assignment of Convict Servants and it in
turn was replaced by a Commissioner for the
Assignment of Convict Servants in 1836.

The Office of Principal Superintendent was
discontinued in December 1855, the functions
being largely taken over by the Convict Branch of
the Police Department.
While most volumes have an index at the front,
these contemporary indexes are incomplete.
They have been fully indexed by Joan Reese in
Colonial Secretary's Correspondence: Index to
letters sent re convicts, 1826–May 1855.
