Letters on a particular matter are located with

the letters are arranged by registered number;
from 1833 to 1849 they are arranged in subject
bundles, usually according to the last person who
handled the matter and from 1850 onwards they
are arranged by registered number. See
Appendix F of interim finding aid for a detailed
item listing.
Many of the letters concerning convicts have
been indexed in Joan Reese's Colonial
Secretary's Correspondence: Index to Convicts
and Others, 1826–1877 and ongoing. This index
should be consulted in the first instance.
